From nowhere I was nudged in the back and stirred from my slumber – “oi! – numbnuts – You know that blog that you were going on about writing? Yeah well it’s been like since July since you wrote something”
“ah – yeah right”
So – Well here am I again.
I apologise for my absence, to be blunt, life has got in the way recently and I’ve simply not been able to put pen to paper, or indeed finger to keyboard.
Loads has been happening with RLR we’ve had some great gigs recently, most notably the Kyle Gass gig which was, to be blunt, frankly tremendous.
The point of this blog though is I suppose to witter on about life in a band and not to simply do a promotion thing about all of our previous gigs. So lets just leave it as our gigs have all been ace.
I find myself contemplating the question what is a rock n roll band.
The starting point as any self respecting wannabe rock n roll star will tell you is Captain Jack Sparrow and his explanation as to what is a ship.
He explains, “Wherever we want to go, we go. That’s what a ship is, you know. It’s not just a keel and a hull and sails; that’s what a ship needs. Not what a ship is. What the Black Pearl really is, is freedom”
Yeah ok it’s twee I get that but if you transpose (ooh music term) to the following then I guess that is my position.
“Wherever we want to go, we go. That’s what a Rock n Roll band is you know, it’s not just drums, guitars, microphones, that’s what a band needs, what Red Light Revival really is, is Freedom”.
Right now I get you that that sounds like a torrent of unadulterated bollocks, but, bear with me. RLR is five guys who love each other loads, who write music that we all love and who can use the band to sail in pursuit of our dreams.
Whether we ever actually find them is beside the point, the fucking journey rocks.
Also, why is the rum always gone?
