“This feisty trio – formed in Gateshead in 2013 – answer to the name of Elephant Memoirs, and they know more than a thing or two about tuneful indie rock.

We featured this bunch in our Local Scene slot last summer and were drawn to their ability to marry brawn and melodic know-how with easy aplomb. Strapping themselves tightly into a propulsive rhythm section, they feel suitably weighty – in the manner of, say, a Biffy Clyro – but also know the value of coming up with the kind of riffs and hooks that give you something to hang your hat on. They’ve got a new single out on 1 March (let’s call it Mug) but they’re launching it with a gig a few days before that at the Dog & Parrot in Newcastle. Lending support will be Red 16, Red Light Revival and Velvoir; and with a door price set at four quid (which also includes a CD copy of the single), we’re straying into Absolute Bargain territory. “

Elephant Memoirs: single launch, Saturday 28 February, The Dog & Parrot, 52 Clayton Street, Newcastle, 7.45pm, £4.
